| Fort Belvoir is proud to offer Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) training classes for the entire Washington, D.C. DoD active duty community. This service is funded the by the US Army Installation Management Command. Fort Belvoir offers Motorcycle Basic Rider Course, Motorcycle Experienced Rider Course, and Military Sport Bike Rider Course. On demand, we provide Motorcycle Refresher Training for service members deployed more than 180 days.
Successful completion of the Basic or Experienced course results in the issuance of a MSF card.

| Purpose: To teach Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Basic Rider Course (BRC), Experienced Rider Course (ERC) and Motorcycle Refresher Training. .
Background:Registration of a motorcycle on a DoD installation is contingent on presenting a MSF card at the time of registration (or other document, as outlined in regulation). MSF card is issued only to those who complete the BRC or ERC. In accordance with DODI 6055.4, this training is provided at no cost to the military and personnel shall not be charged leave to attend this training. Disclaimer: Our
BRC is not a licensing course and does not substitute for the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) road test. (b) Take the BRC at NVCC Community College ($150 - www.nvcc.edu/alexandria/moto) or through Apex Cycle Education ($350 - www.apexcycleeducation.com) and pass their written and skills evaluations. If you have an out-of-state drivers license, check with your state DMV regarding procedures to obtain your motorcycle endorsement. Registration: Service Members Only. | Directions:
Enter Fort Belvoir via Route 1/Tulley Gate. Take the 1st left onto Gunston Road. Proceed north on Gunston Road, turn left onto Goethals Road, take the 1st right onto Foster Road, turn slight left onto Stuart Road, 6205 Stuart Road is on the left. Turn right into the fenced parking lot (Large blue sign with the Navy “Seabee” logo). Enter thru Tully Gate:
You do not need a pass - just a valid ID and identify yourself as a MSF
student. 1) Please read the entire "Registration instructions section:", if you are having problems with the website or have additional questions, please contact the Safety Office at (703) 704-0649 or email: usarmy.belvoir.imcom-hq.mbx.safetyiso@mail.mil 2) Trikes are not allowed in the traditional BRC/ERC; 3) The three-wheeled Piaggio scooters (MP3, MP4 and MP5) are allowed, per MSF exception, because they handle like a motorcycle; 4) The CANAM Spyder is considered a trike and is, therefore, not allowed; 5) For those desiring training, the trike/sidecar ERCs are provided at NVCC Loudoun Campus in Sterling VA. |

| Equipment: (1) Motorcycle must arrive to class with a fully charged battery and full tank of gas. Students using their own bikes must bring personal protective equipment (PPE) including: DOT approved helmet (with face shield, glasses/sunglasses or goggles); long fingered gloves; hard-soled shoes covering ankle; long-sleeved shirt or jacket; long trousers. Gloves and helmets will be provided to students using loaner bikes. (2) Students in the Experience Rider Course (ERC) must have a current MC endorsement on your state license. (3)Documents required on training day: Note: Borrowed motorcycles/scooters must be accompanied by a written statement from the owner (notarized) specifically authorizing the student to use the cycle in the course. Document must be presented with insurance and registration card for the cycle. |

| Inspection: Motorcycle/scooter
must pass a basic safety inspection from the instructor.
Cancellations: Student-initiated cancellation: Fort Belvoir maintains a standby list to keep this class 100% full. You must contact the Safety Office at least five days prior to class date if you cannot attend. Weather cancellation: Classes run in the rain. Bring
weather gear to class if needed. In the event of severe weather, the instructor
may cancel the class. Students will be notified via phone and email by
the Safety Office. BRC: Students with only a Learner’s Permit cannot ride their cycle to class unless accompanied by a person age 21 or over who is licensed to operate a motorcycle or students may trailer their cycle to the course. ERC students have a current motorcycle endorsement on their license and are authorized to ride their motorcycle to the training site. Additional Information: Breaks do not provide time to go off-site for a snack or something to drink, but you are free to bring snacks and drinks for your use during breaks. Bathroom facilities are available. Recommend suntan lotion, lip balm, and wet weather gear (if necessary). These classes run in the rain.
