Fort Belvoir intends to demolish four World War II era warehouses, Buildings 1146, 1147, 1148 and 1154. In accordance with the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 Fort Belvoir has evaluated these buildings and determined that they are eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. Fort Belvoir has developed a draft Memorandum of Agreement with the Virginia State Historic Preservation Office for the purpose of mitigating the adverse effect caused by the demolition of these historic buildings. The draft Memorandum of Agreement would require Fort Belvoir to develop historic documentation on the buildings and install a historic marker interpreting the history of Fort Belvoir’s warehouse district. The draft Memorandum of Agreement is available for public comment on the Fort Belvoir web page at http://www.belvoir.army.mil/brac/docs/DemolitionMOADraft_02June28.doc. Please submit comments to environmental-FB-DPW@conus.army.mil. Comments must be submitted no later than July 18, 2008.
