Biography

Colonel Jerry L. Blixt is a native of Galesburg, Illinois and a graduate of the University of Iowa.  He graduated from the Intelligence Officer Basic Course and served his initial assignment as Executive Officer, B Company and then as Chief, Field Training Exercise Branch, 111th Military Intelligence (MI) Brigade at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona.  He then served as the S2, 2-72 Armor Battalion, 1st Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Republic of Korea.  After the MIOAC at Fort Huachuca, he attended the Intelligence Collection Manager’s Course and Signals Intelligence Officers Course.  He was then assigned to the 502d MI Battalion, 201st MI Brigade, I Corps, Fort Lewis, Washington.

He served subsequent assignments as I Corps Dep Collection Manager, Company Commander, and as Chief, Analysis Control Element (ACE).  He then attended the Junior Officer Cryptologic Career Program, National Security Agency, Fort Meade, Md. from May 1990 to Feb. 1993 with selective duty at US CENTCOM, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.  After JOCCP he was assigned to the Army Staff as an Operations Officer, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G2. While serving on the Army Staff, COL Blixt was selected as the G2’s “Action Officer of the Year.”  He served as the Deputy G-2, 2d Armored Division (subsequently the 4th Infantry Division), and then as the S-3, Operations Officer, 104th MI Battalion, 4th ID, Ft. Hood. 

Following the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, he served as a Joint Staff Plans Officer, Vice Dep. Director for Requirements, Capabilities, Assessments and Doctrine, and as Division Chief, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Systems for the J-2, The Joint Staff, from July 1998 to July 2001. He then served as the Assistant G-3, Current Operations, Plans and Force Readiness, U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command from July 2001 to June 2002. From July 2002 to July 2004, he commanded the US Army HQ Battalion at Fort Myer, VA.  After command he served in the Army G-2 as the Chief, G-2 Initiatives Group and Assistant Executive Officer. After the National War College, he served at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, as the Military Executive (MX) for the Director, Analysis and Production and then MX for the Director, NGA.

COL Blixt’s military awards and qualifications include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal with six oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Army Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award with three oak leaf clusters, and the Iraq Campaign Medal with star.  He is authorized to wear the Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge, Army Staff Identification Badge, and Parachutist Badge.  He is the recipient of the NMIA and National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency “William F. Lackman, Jr. Award.”  He was also presented the National Intelligence Medallion by John Michael McConnell, Director of National Intelligence.

COL Blixt is a graduate of the National War College. His education includes a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Iowa, a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University and a Masters Degree in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University.
