Biography

Lt. Col. Christopher Tomlinson grew up in Gruver, Texas, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1986. His first assignment was 4th BN, 325th ABN INF REG, 82nd ABN DIV, Fort Bragg, N.C.

In 1996, upon graduation from Texas Tech University ROTC, he was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant and attended Infantry Officers Basic Course at Fort Benning, Ga.; and graduated from Army Ranger School, and was assigned to 1st BN, 325th AIR, 82nd ABN DIV, Fort Bragg.

While assigned at Fort Bragg, he served as Rifle Platoon leader; Assistant Operations officer; Support Platoon leader; Airborne Operations officer; and Company Executive officer with deployments to the JRTC, NTC, and deployment to the Multi-National Forces and Observers, Egypt. As part of the branch detail program, Tomlinson transitioned to Military Intelligence and attended Military Intelligence Advanced Course in Fort Huachuca, Ariz., with follow-on assignment as Brigade S2, DIVARTY, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany.

He was selected as Military Intelligence Company Commander for Bravo Company, 501st Military Intelligence Battalion, Wackernheim, Germany. While assigned to 1st Armored Division, he conducted pre-deployment training to Combined Maneuver Training Center and deployed to Baghdad as Company Commander & BDE S2 supporting 2BCT, 1st Armored Division. Upon redeployment, he was assigned back to Fort Huachuca, and served as assistant TRADOC Capabilities Manager for Sensor Processing and DCGS-A. He was then assigned as Battalion S3, 201st Military Intelligence Interrogation Battalion, 470th Military Intelligence Battalion, at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas.

While assigned to the 201st, he deployed to Iraq in September 2007, as part of the Army’s first Interrogation Battalion and was assigned to the Joint Interrogation and Debriefing Center (JIDC), Multi-National Forces-Iraq as the J3 Chief for Interrogation Operations.  Maj. Tomlinson then completed CGSC and was assigned to USSOUTHCOM. While there, he served as J5 contingency planner, executive officer to the Chief of Staff, and SCJ2 Chief, Intelligence Resources Division (IRD).  LTC Tomlinson was most recently assigned to 66th Military Intelligence Brigade, where he served as Chief, Analysis Control Element, supporting USAREUR G2.  He graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. He also holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Webster University.

His awards and decorations include the Army Achievement medal (Silver Oak Leaf cluster); Army Commendation Medal (3 Oak Leaf cluster); Meritorious Service Medal (2 Oak Leaf cluster); Defense Meritorious Service Medal; The Bronze Star Medal (1 oak leaf cluster); The Expert Infantryman’s Badge; Masters Parachutists Badge; and the Ranger Tab. 

He and his wife live near Fort Belvoir.
